What can you do to help?
All our athletes could use support and our meets, whether to cheer for them during their competitions. It also takes a lot of work to keep the meets rolling, so you could volunteer to help with throws, jumps, officials. The School district also has paid positions to help officiate meets if are interested in a more regular position.
Track meets are long and the athletes needs snack and drinks while at the meets, also many are after school so they don't get proper nutrition throughout the day so they could really use some healthy foods. Fruit, veggies, muffins, sandwiches, trail mix, snack bars, sports drinks, etc.
Many athletes do not get enough sleep and without enough sleep or proper nutrition then training and performances decline.
Student athletes grades are important. Attendance is important. They are not allowed to practice if not at school that day and if they miss too many practices or school they cannot compete. Without proper grades they cannot compete. Let's all stay on top of this so it doesn't affect them later in the season. https://parentconnect.asdk12.org/
Running a track program is expensive and in the spring it is hard to fundraise. If you know of people or businesses willing to donate or you have ideas for fundraising please help. If we have a team fundraising event please support the event.
Cane's Fundraiser on March 12th
When athletes show up late to meets, practices, or buses it holds the entire team up. Please encourage your athlete to be on time (or even a few mintues early.) When at practice or meets be present in that event. Practice is typically 3:30-5 time to focus on Track/Working out. There is plenty of time to work on school work after 5pm. Please encourage good time management.
Make sure your athlete has proper gear for running and competing. Water Bottle. Good running shoes- running shoes only tend to last 3-6 months size of athlete and mileage. Racing or competition shoes. Proper workout gear. Dress in layers while it is cold out, we will be practicing inside or outside depending on snow conditions not on temperature! This is Alaska it will be cold at practice and meets. Girls need good supportive sports bras. Also remind your athletes to keep all their gear in their bag when they are not using it. There are frequently multiple left behind items: phones, water bottles, uniforms, racing shoes at end of practices and meets.
There is an informational meeting and basic training on February 18th at 5:30 in MPR1 at Dimond High School. If you have Questions? Please contact Jennifer Kueter (Kueterfam@gmail.com) for more information.
