ACTIVITIES OFFICE: Janeen Wilkins (Activities Principal) – 742-2192
SCHEDULE: Practice will be held Monday through Friday from 3:30-5pm most school days, first meeting at Upper Gym and when weather permits at the outside track. We will periodically travel to the dome for practice in which practice times will vary. Buses will be provided when not practicing at East, and riding the bus is expected unless you notify the coach in advance. Meets are listed on the calendar, if you can not attend a meet you need to notify the coach by Tuesday before the meet. Regions are May 22-23 at Dimond Highs and State meet is May 29-30 at Dimond.
GENERAL RULES AND EXPECTATIONS:
All required forms (including physical, payment/waiver, concussion test) and fees must be submitted to the Activities Office and approved before you may practice.
Attendance and participation at all practices, meets, team meetings, and other team functions are mandatory, unless absence is pre-approved by a coach. Excessive absences will result in the athlete being removed from the team.
Athletes who are absent from two or more practices in one week will not be eligible to compete in the next scheduled meet.
All athletes should be on time for practice, as well as for departure to and return from all team functions. After practices and meets, athletes are required to leave the facility. Excessive tardiness will result in disciplinary action. You are not allowed in the school without a coach, no wandering around school, therefore no reason to be tardy.
When traveling via bus, the entire team takes the bus. If driving yourself it must be preapproved by coaches and athletes must be on time. Athletes may only leave the meet with their own parent/legal guardian and must tell the coach on the bus, if you are leaving with a parent.
Ten practices are required, before an athlete may compete in an official meet.
Uniforms will be issued once a student is eligible to compete and has returned his/her signed Policy statement. It is an athlete’s responsibility to turn in all issued gear at the end of the season. Fines will be issued for uniforms that are damaged or not returned. An athlete may not compete in a meet or receive a uniform until this form is signed and returned. Fines: Warm up Jacket: $80 Warm up Pants: $60 Singlet: $50 Shorts: $25
Foul language is prohibited and will cause disqualification at a meet. Foul language during other team events will incur disciplinary consequences up to and including removal from the team for repeat offenses.
Physical violence, fighting, bullying, sexual harassment will not be tolerated on this team and will result in disciplinary action or removal from the team.
Athletes must attend class to participate in practice or competitions, if you are truant for one or more classes you are not allowed to practice or compete that day.
All ASD Policy (as set forth in the student handbook) and team behavior policies will be followed on the track & field team. Breaking these policies will result in disciplinary action.
Questions or concerns of athletes should be taken to a coach immediately. Most often things can be resolved in this way very quickly. If an athlete still has a concern that has not been addressed, a parent should contact the coaches. We encourage and value open communication within the program.
LETTERING REQUIREMENTS:
Complete the season through the last eligible meet or practice AND
Score 10 points during the outdoor season (relay points are divided by 4) OR
Advance to Regions and/or State,
Coaches’ discretion
Be a Senior that competed in 4 years of track.
GRADES AND ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS:
ASD has set minimum guidelines on eligibility and these requirements will be enforced. Students should aim to exceed these expectations.
If a student misses class(es) due to a track meet, the student is responsible for contacting their teacher(s) in advance regarding assignments and make-up work.
If you have below a C in a class you will not be excused from class for a meet.
CONDUCT EXPECTATIONS, PENALTIES: We expect our athletes to show positive attitude, hard work, determination, respect for self, others, and coaches and a commitment to maintaining grades. Athletes who do not meet conduct or attendance expectations may expect to be penalized by being barred from a meet or removed from the team, depending on the severity of the infraction(s).
By signing this document I agree to follow the rules of the East Track and Field team and will represent the team with integrity and treat myself, coaches, teammates, and competitors with respect.
