EAST UNIFIED TRACK AND FIELD
Unified Track offers the long jump, shot put, 100 meters, and the 4x100 Relay for both male and female unified athletes/partners.
LONG JUMP: athletes sprint down a runway and leap as far as possible from a takeoff board into a sandpit
SHOT PUT: athletes "put" (push, not throw) a metal ball for maximum distance from a 7-foot circle. Boys use a 12-lb (5.44 kg) ball, while girls use a 4 kg (8.8 lb) ball
100meter Sprint: athletes run as fast as they can staying in their own lane for 100m.
4x100m: A relay that consist of 2 Unified Athletes and 2 Partner athletes, each athlete runs 100m and hand a baton to each other during the exchange zones. (1 total lap around the track)
The way it works is for each unified athlete (athlete with an intellectual disability) is paired with a unified partner (athlete without an intellectual disability). They both compete in the event, and their scores/marks are combined. Athletes and partners can compete in just one event or all of the events.
